5 New Year Food Resolutions I Don’t Regret Taking This Year

This year, I fell into the cycle of ‘new year resolutions’. Again. 

Like every other person on this planet, I have had my share of failed resolutions. But, also, like every other person on this planet, I was determined to be successful this year. And fortunately, I was. 

The two halves of my plan were to give a makeover to my house and my diet. For my house,I found a very talented interior designer who had put up her digital resume online. I loved her work and hired her. And it proved to be a very efficient and affordable task. While I had a helping hand for my house, my food choices were dependent on my perseverance and determination. But, I also had a trick up my sleeve – To be healthy without being hard on myself. 

So, if you want to make some changes in your diet, but don’t know where to start. I have a list of 5 food resolutions which are a perfect combination of ease and health. 

Getting plant-based

Thankfully, 2020 has had a remarkable increase in innovative plant-based meals. So, you don’t have to go on a hunt. Or, miss out on your favorite food. From your delicious hamburgers to mouth watering but dairy froyos. There is a plant-based alternative for almost every dish. And, without a compromise on taste. Also, these diets are not only beneficial for your health but also the planet

Now, how do you proceed with this change? Slowly but steadily. 

For success, resolutions should not be a shock to your routine. So, if you love your juicy chicken wings, you don’t have to totally and immediately exclude animal products. Begin with one meal a week to plant based weekends. And then if you want, you can slowly exclude every animal product from your meal.

Smoothies are a perfect breakfast

When a celebrity talks of a breakfast smoothie as a secret to their healthy body. Pay attention because they ain’t lying. Whether you are looking to get in shape or for a quick breakfast or evening snack. Smoothies are a way to go.

Not only are they easy and quick to prepare, they have a whole lot of health benefits. Also, you can literally make your own recipe. From almond milk to oats, coconut. Choose your ingredients. However, there is no point in having a smoothie, if you add those extra calories with ‘sugar’.  So, try and avoid cane sugar, chocolate or anything processed. Or, use alternatives like banana and honey for sugar and fresh or frozen fruits instead of canned ones. I make mine with almond milk, banana, a little bit of vanilla and strawberries.

  1.  Snack on seeds

I always carry a pack of sunflower seeds to my office. So, if I ever feel the desire to munch on something, I have my delicious seeds. 

They are a very healthy alternative to your daily fried chips and candies. They are rich in nutrients and antioxidants and can also be very helpful for patients of high blood pressure. And you can incorporate them very easily in your diet. Like, sprinkle some chia seed on your next oatmeal or roast a handful of pumpkin seeds as your movie snack. You can also pop some in your breakfast smoothies. 

Enjoy desserts but without sugar

Nowadays, everyone steers clear from any form of ‘added sugar’. And it’s a good thing. Sugar is a promoter of unhealthy weight gain, heart diseases and diabetes. But, this does not mean you cannot satisfy your sweet tooth. 

This year you can go healthy but without sacrificing your slice of cake. This is possible if you look for sugar alternatives. Like maple syrup, dates, bananas etc. So, whether it’s your brownies or a birthday cake, let sugar not enter any recipe. You can get them pre-made or follow a recipe. This way, you also get a chance to be creative.

  1.  A water bottle wherever you go

Winters or summers, hydration is a must. Biology taught me that water is great for my metabolism and other vital body functions. So, why leave on such an easily available health benefit. However, low water intake is still one of the biggest problems of people. 

So how to tackle this problem? Set up a reminder by carrying a bottle. 

This resolution will definitely solve your problem of low water intake. Carrying a bottle makes sure that you never have to stay without water. If you feel thirsty, just open your bottle and sip.

Conclusion

So this year, break the cycle and be successful with your plans. These 5 food resolutions are not only easy to follow but will also become a part of your lifestyle. And I can ensure you wouldn’t regret them. Because I didn’t.
